There are three ways to satisfy mandatory advising, students need to choose one of the following options:

2) They may attend a one-hour group advising session provided by the Office of Advising Services. (NOTE: This option will not satisfy the requirement for students who must see their major or special program advisor.) Students may sign up for an advising workshop at the Advising Services website.

3) New this year, beginning February 1, students may take an online advising workshop via Blackboard. (NOTE: This option will not satisfy the requirement for students who must see their major or special program advisor.) Students may self-enroll in the course under “Hot Spots” on Blackboard. There are five brief parts to the course, followed by a quiz. Once students complete the quiz they can print out a certificate of completion.

Message from Dr. Paul Oliaro regarding proposed tuition fee increases

July 7th, 2011

As you continue to plan for the start of the fall 2011 semester, I want to inform you of an important meeting of the California State University Board of Trustees. On July 12, 2011 the Board of Trustees will consider a proposal to increase undergraduate tuition fees effective with the fall 2011 semester. The proposal is to increase tuition fees for undergraduate, credential, and graduate students.  For students enrolled full-time, the fee proposal will increase semester tuition fees over the fees published in June by:   $294 for undergraduates, $339 for credential students, and $360 for graduate students. Tuition fees for part-time students (0-6 units) will increase proportionately.

This action is proposed due to the reduction in CSU funding in the State of California budget for the 2011-12 academic year. While the university has taken many steps to reduce expenditures, the proposal to increase fees is designed to avert damage to student access, student support, program quality, and student progress toward the degree.

As soon as information is available regarding the tuition fee proposal, this information will be posted at http://my.csufresno.edu and at http://www.fresnostatenews.com. Additionally, an email will be sent to your Fresno State email account. If you are currently enrolled in fall classes, an E-Bill statement will be sent to you by Student Financial Services no later than July 21, 2011. You will be able to view the fees that you owe by accessing your Student Center at http://my.csufresno.edu. The fees due on your student E-Bill will include the additional fees if adopted by the Board of Trustees on July 12.

The deadline for payment of your fall fees has been moved to WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 3rd.

Because we know that you will have questions about the proposed fee increase, a Frequently Asked Questions bulletin is available at http://www.fresnostatenews.com.

Sincerely,

Paul M. Oliaro

Vice President for Student Affairs
