Anthony P. Radford

Anthony P. Radford is Assistant Professor of Voice and Opera at California State University, Fresno where he is the adviser for the Voice Performance degree and is the director of the Fresno State Opera Theatre.  Before coming to Fresno he was Assistant Professor of Voice at the University of Lethbridge in Alberta, Canada. Originally from Toronto, Canada, Dr. Radford holds a B.A. in Political Science from York University and a Master of Music Degree from the New England Conservatory of Music.  He was an Othmer Fellow at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln where he earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree.  Dr. Radford studies also took him to the Britten-Pears school in Aldeburgh, England where he appeared in opera roles at the Aldeburgh Festival and the Snape Maltings. 

He is a published author, a presenter at many international and national conferences and sits the Board of Directors of the National Opera Association as well as the editorial committee of the Opera Journal. He is a regular adjudicator with the National Association of Teachers of Singing, the founder of the Lethbridge/Medicine Hat NATS Chapter, and was a 2006 of the NATS intern program in Kansas City.

He has performed 21 opera roles and 15 solo recitals in his 15 years of collegiate and professional singing. He has been heard on CBC, KIOS Omaha, and KVPR Fresno.  Dr. Radford has sung with the Omaha Symphony, Fresno Philharmonic and most recently with the Tulare County Symphony.

Dr. Radford is highly enthusiastic about the musical community in the Central Valley and his voice studio attracts students from across the region and internationally. He is the pre-performance lecturer for the Fresno Grand Opera, and in 2010 he was a presenter at the Fresno County Library’s Annual fundraising dinner.  At Fresno State he has directed a full production of Elixir of Love, Amahl and the Night Visitors and scenes programs “Opera in the Country” and “Perfect Endings”. He organized an Opera Theatre tour in February of 2010 to the South Central Valley. Recently, he made his second appearance with the Fresno Choral Artists as the bass soloist in The Messiah.  Dr. Radford lives in Fresno’s Tower District, and enjoys long walks with his wife Sarah, son Jonathan and very well behaved shepherd mix dog, Cedric.
