Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI-Level 1) Designed for 2nd-5th Grade Elementar Teachers (K-6) Summer 2020

Introductory activities including Standards in Mathematics and eight Standards of Mathematical Practices followed by a demonstration class and immersed lesson for the participating teachers.

Week of June 15 - 19

Each day participating teachers will have an opportunity to observe demonstration classes in grades 4-5, 5-6, 6-9, and 9-12 with pre-lesson discussion and post lesson debrief. Also, teachers will have an opportunity to observe how students engage in outdoor activities and use computer software in their learning process.

Learning how following mathematical practices are implemented in the classroom will be observed and discussed in detail.

  • Standard 1: Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them
  • Standard 2: Reason abstractly and quantitatively
  • Standard 3: Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others
  • Standard 4: Model with mathematics
  • Standard 5: Use appropriate tools strategically
  • Standard 6: Attend to precision
  • Standard 7: Look for and make use of structure
  • Standard 8: Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning

Cost
Please ask your School/District to support you by paying the registration fee of $725 ($825 if registering after May 15).

Units
On the first day of the workshop you will have the opportunity to sign up to earn 2 or 3 units of university credit (Professional Development - CI 180T) for $75/unit.

Stipend
After participating in and completing this workshop you will receive a $250 stipend.
