Comcast and Library Streaming Media Collections
Several faculty, staff, and students who use Comcast for their internet service provider have reported problems getting access to library streaming media resources from their home computers. For those experiencing this problem, the Library's streaming media collections do not appear to be available (or visible on the network at all), and users will get an error message when they try to log in to the library streaming media collections.
No clear pattern has emerged regarding which households can gain access to the Library's streaming media collections; one faculty member who has Comcast internet service could not use the streaming media collections from home while her neighbor who has Comcast internet service could use the streaming media collections. A Comcast technician who was diagnosing this problem mentioned that Comcast has been implementing virtual network nodes in Clovis and the eastern part of Fresno and that this may be causing the problem.
As far as we are aware, no other internet service providers in the Fresno County area have this problem.
In the event that you cannot get to these materials when you are off-campus, you can access them from the campus network or library computers. To solve this problem, please contact Comcast at 1-800-COMCAST.
