Associates Loan Policies
Your library-issued Community Borrower card and a picture ID are required for all transactions.
Loan Periods
- 28 days for most books, scores, Teacher Resource Center items and government documents
- 7 days for Current Periodicals, Music & Media DVDs, audio cassettes, compact discs, videos and bound periodicals
- 3 days for reference items
- Music & Media headphones are due back before the close of business each day.
Renewals and Recalls
- You may renew most books online or in person at the Circulation Desk, 1st Floor. Overdue items must be renewed in person at the Circulation Desk . Recalled items may not be renewed.
- Books recalled by another patron must be returned within 10 days. You will be notified of the recall at your e-mail address, if applicable.
- Music & Media DVDs, audio cassettes, compact discs and videos cannot be renewed.
Maximum Number of Items
- Associates: 10 total items on your record at one time
- Premium Associates: 25 total items on your record at one time
Fees and Charges
Overdue Materials
$0.25 fine per day per item for the following:
- Books
- Teacher Resource Center items
- Music scores
- Maps
- Government Documents
- Overdue fines for late-returned recalled items increase to $1 per day.
$1.00 per day per item for the following:
- Overdue recalled books
- Bound periodicals
- Current periodicals
- Music & Media DVDs, audio cassettes, compact discs and videos
Lost or Damaged Items
- Cost of item plus $10 processing fee plus $10 late fee for lost Henry Madden Library material
Eligibility
All California residents who are 18 years or older are eligible to purchase an Associate borrower's card or a Premium Associate borrower's card from the Madden Library. Applicants must produce a current California driver's license or California identification card, and be willing to provide a Social Security number.
Cost
The cost for each year (beginning with the date purchased) is:
- Associates: $50.00 (1-year), $35.00 (6-months)
- Alumni Associates: $35.00 (1-year), $25 (6-months)
- Premium Associates: $100.00 (1-year), $70.00 (6-months)
- Alumni Premium Associates: $70.00 (1-year), $50 (6-months)
Corporations may purchase one Associates borrower card to be issued in the name of the corporation for $50.00 (employees must present proof of employment and the card to borrow books). Alternatively, corporations may purchase four individual cards in the names of the individuals or three individual cards and one corporate card for $150.00.
There is a $5.00 charge for replacing lost community borrower cards. Report lost cards immediately. The person to whom the card is issued is responsible for any books borrowed using that card until the loss of the card is reported.
In addition to CSU faculty, staff, and students, free cards will be issued to:
- Members of all CSU alumni associations
- Part-time Fresno State faculty
- Retired CSU faculty, lecturers, and staff
- Spouses & domestic partners of current and retired faculty & staff
- Students making up incompletes or working on a thesis.
- Participants in approved programs
- Students at colleges with reciprocal borrowing or guarantee arrangements
- Business Associates
- UC and community college faculty
- Chancellor's Associates
- New Fresno State graduates (1 year only)
Any fines, fees, or charges that are unpaid for a lengthy period of time will be referred to the California Franchise Tax Board to be recovered by means of a tax offset.
