Assoc. Prof./Program Coordinator
|Dept||Counseling, Special Education, & Rehabilitation|
Welcome to the Rehabilitation Program at CSU – Fresno! Like you, I was attracted to the program here by all of the opportunities I saw and especially by the “hands-on” experiential aspect of the program. I also value the professional identity I share with colleagues here.
I was awarded the Rh.D. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern Illinois University in 1999 and am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor. I have worked as an alcohol and substance abuse counselor and was certified in Illinois as a criminal justice addictions specialist and Board Registered mental illness and substance abuse counselor (dual disorders). I also have several years of previous experience as a behavioral specialist with the Department of Mental Health-Developmental Disabilities in Illinois. I have presented both nationally and regionally on issues related to dual disorders; women in recovery; cognitive-behavioral approaches to anger awareness and on the applications of motivational interviewing.
Although I have spent most of my life in or around Springfield Illinois I was actually born in California. I feel like a salmon returning to my beginnings and feel right at home as a late bloomer in the San Joaquin Valley. I believe strongly in counselor self-care as an ethical mandate and enjoy physical activity, movies, and playing Frisbee with my dogs.
