Scholarships

The following scholarships are awarded through the Kremen School of Education and Human Development.  For more information and to apply, please visit the University Scholarships page.

Department of Curriculum and Instruction

  • Stanley and Darlene Spano Scholarship 
    Awarded to a Kremen School of Education and Human Development student pursing a teaching credential. Applicants must maintain a 3.0 GPA and be enrolled either part-time or full-time. Preference shall be given to students involved in Central Valley Partnership for Exemplary Teachers (also referred to as the “Partner Schools” program).

Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation

  • Becky Honda Memorial Scholarship
    A Scholarship shall be awarded to at least one student in the field of Rehabilitation Counseling.

Department of Literacy, Early, Bilingual and Special Education

  • Cecilio Orozco Memorial Scholarship 
    Scholarships shall be awarded to students pursing either a graduate degree in Education with an emphasis in bilingual education or graduate project work with English language learners. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

  • Jeannetta V. Stearns Memorial Scholarship 
    Scholarships for Fresno State students who have been admitted into the credential program. Recipients must be in good academic standing and have a minimum GPA of 2.75. Preference will be given to students pursuing an elementary teaching credential, and those who have an emphasis in bilingual education.

  • Joylene Boren Memorial Scholarship for Reading 
    Scholarships shall be awarded to post graduate students enrolled at Fresno State with a GPA of 3.0 or better. Recipient must be working towards a master of education degree, or any future educational program with contributions to the promotion of reading and/or children’s literature. Preference will be given to qualified students seeking a reading specialist credential.

Liberal Studies Program

  • Jan & Gary Mekeel Scholarship
    Scholarship for students enrolled on a full-time basis in a Liberal Arts major with the goal of obtaining a teaching credential. The recipient must have an overall GPA of at least 3.0 or better. Preference may be given to applicants who demonstrate an interest in education administration.

  • Patsey P. Karle Scholarship 
    Scholarships shall be awarded to students enrolled on a full-time basis as a Liberal Studies Major with the goal of obtaining a teaching credential at Fresno State. The recipient must have earned an overall GPA of at least 3.0.

  • Ray & Viola Moseley Scholarship
    Awarded to students studying to teach in any area of the elementary school field and in need of financial assistance. Applicants must be a full-time junior or senior with a 3.0 GPA or higher.

General

  • Carl E. Levin Elementary Teaching Training Scholarship
    Established to support students who are pursing a degree in Ag, Education, Science, Math and Business.

  • Dale & Shirley Hewlett Scholarship
    Scholarships will be awarded to a student enrolled in the Kremen School with preference given to students interested in teaching in Grades K-8. The recipient must have a minimum GPA of 3.2 for an incoming freshman or 3.0 for continuing students. In addition, the awardee will have a demonstrated history of good citizenship as demonstrated by community involvement and academic achievement.

  • Dorothy Hamilton Scholarship
    Established to provide scholarships to students in the Kremen School of Education.

  • Dr. Francis F. Smith Scholarship
    Awarded to graduate students in Education. The recipients shall be nominated by Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education. Recipients must have at least a 3.0 GPA.

  • Dr. Joan Henderson-Sparks & Dr. Richard Sparks, Sr. Scholarship Awarded to students within the Kremen School of Education and Human Development who have been accepted into the teaching credential program. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or greater and be enrolled part-time or full-time. Preference given to students involved in Central Valley Partnership for Exemplary Teachers (also referred to as the “Partner Schools” program).

  • Forrest E. Sloan Scholarship 
    Scholarships shall be awarded to students in the School of Education and Human Development who are student teachers in the fourth, fifth or sixth grades.

  • Harold E. Coles Memorial Scholarship 
    Scholarships shall be awarded to students in their senior year of college or graduate student planning to enter the field of elementary or secondary education. Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of financial need educational promise, and interest in the field of education as a career.

  • James Schultz Scholarship
    Awarded to students preparing to enter the teaching profession.

  • J.C. Pearl McMillian Memorial Scholarship 
    Awarded to deserving students enrolled in a professional teacher preparation program and pursing a preliminary basic credential (single subject; mutli-subject; or special education) and demonstrated overall excellence and accomplishment. Student must have a cumulative minimum GPA of 3.25 earned over the last sixty units of post-secondary instruction.

  • Joseph B. Murphy Memorial Scholarship 
    Awarded to a full-time student on the basis of financial need and scholarship. Preference is given to students with majors in the School of Education.

  • Linda Carol Miller Memorial Scholarship 
    Scholarship is awarded to a student who is pursing an Education Major and maintains a 3.0 GPA or better.

  • Maxima A. Dandoy Scholarship 
    Scholarships shall be awarded to students in the School of Education and Human Development.

  • Mel & Mitzi Farley Scholarship 
    Scholarship is awarded to students planning to major in the field of teaching. The award shall be based on financial need, education promise, and an interest in the field of education as a career.

  • Melba Walker Scholarship 
    Awarded to students seeking a basic teaching professional level credential. Preference will be given to students from Fresno County. Students must be enrolled full-time and be in good academic standing at all times.

  • Lydia C. Nilmeier Scholarship 
    Awarded to students in the Kremen School of Education who are majoring in Elementary Education. Applicants must be currently enrolled at Fresno State and have completed a minimum of sixty units with an overall GPA of at least 3.25.

  • Phyllis Barr Henfling Scholarship 
    Scholarships shall be awarded to students majoring in elementary education with a GPA of 3.0 or better.

  • Robert & Norma Craig Scholarship 
    Scholarship shall be awarded to Kremen School of Education and Human Development students.

  • Rutherford B. Gaston, Sr. Scholarship 
    Scholarship shall be awarded to a student who is accepted in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development Teacher Credential Program of masters of Science in Education program with an overall GPA of 3.5 or above.
