This outreach project of the Kremen School serves the community with literacy tutoring for the improvement of reading achievement. Tutors are Fresno State students who are specially trained in intervention strategies to impact levels of reading and writing performance; tutors are trained, supervised, and monitored by Reading faculty of the Kremen School. Services of the Reading Laboratory are intended for school-age children for whom ‘extra’ instruction is needed as determined by their parents and/or teachers.
The Reading Lab is located in Room ED59 on the Atrium Level of the Education Building and operates Mondays-Thursdays, 1:00 to 6:00 p.m., during the fall and spring semesters. Student-clients receive individual one-hour lessons twice a week over 10-12 weeks of tutorial instruction, for a total of 20-24 lessons in a semester. A nominal fee for the semester is charged; a matching scholarship program is available on a request/ application basis for up to one-half of the standard fee. For more information and a form to request tutoring service can be obtained from the Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special Education Department at (559) 278-0250.
