Hooding Instructions for
Master's Degree Candidates
The Kremen School of Education and Human Development at Fresno State is one of the few institutions who recognize graduates with a hooding ceremony at the KSOEHD Convocation. In order to give the ceremony the proper pomp and circumstance that lends itself to the formal occasion, here are the instructions for the proper hooding process.
The velvet facing on the hood designates the field of study. The color of the hood’s lining represents the institution bearing the degree.
When you enter the arena your hood should be draped over your right arm with the point to the inside of your body with the velvet near your hand.
When you walk up to the hooding faculty you should present your hood to the faculty member directly in front of you and turn to face the audience.
If you are taller than the hooding faculty, please bend at the knees, the hood will be going over your head.
The faculty will place the hood in the proper position and fold the hood out so the colors of the school will be prominent on your back with the velvet part of the hood next to your neck. When the hood is in place the faculty member will tap you on the shoulder.
You will turn to your right, shake hands with the faculty and proceed across the stage and return to your seat.
