Department of Plant Science
Chair's Welcome
Welcome to the Department of Plant Science at California State University, Fresno.
We are located in the heart of California’s San Joaquin Valley, one of the richest
and most diverse agricultural production areas in the world. Our faculty hold PhDs
from leading agricultural universities and maintain up-to-date knowledge of agricultural
production practices through applied research and industry outreach. Our class sizes
are large enough to offer a broad range of courses but small enough to provide individual
student-faculty interaction. We strive to give our students personalized academic
and career advising. Our location allows us to offer a diverse, crop production-based
curriculum with numerous opportunities for student employment in faculty research
projects, crop production enterprises on the University Agricultural Laboratory, industry
internships and summer jobs. We also offer a large number of student scholarships
and grants made possible by generous industry and community support.
The Department offers the Bachelor of Science degree with option areas in agronomy,
horticulture, plant health, or general plant science. We also offer a minor in Plant
Science for students interested in complimenting another major. Our Master of Science
degree is based on advanced coursework and thesis research. All of our graduate courses
are scheduled in the evening to accommodate working professionals.
I invite you to explore our website and consider our curriculum and course opportunities.
Please feel free to contact me or any faculty members in your area of interest to
learn more. If you are interested in a science-based crop production degree, you will
not find a better program than Plant Science at California State University, Fresno.
