Department Chair Bio
Dr. Athanasios Alexandrou joined the Fresno State in 2006. He is an agricultural engineer with Master and PhD degrees from Cranfield University in England. He has taught courses related to internal combustion engines (gasoline and diesel), engine control systems, energy and agriculture, heating and air conditioning among others.
He has an interest in the area of air quality and energy issues as related to agriculture. His research focuses in particulate matter (PM) emissions from agricultural operations and emissions from small engines. He also worked on energy budget for field crops and Life Cycle Inventory (LCI) and has been successful in obtaining funds from federal agencies such as USDA and Natural Resources Conservation Service, state agencies such as California Air Resource Board and San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District, industry such as Sun Maid and agricultural groups such as NISEI Farmers League.
His publications include peer reviewed papers, a book on ancient Greek technology (in Spanish) and presentations in conferences. He is a member of a number of professional organizations including American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers. Dr. Alexandrou is fluent in Spanish and Greek.
