Dietetic Internship

Notification of Program Change(s)

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science is in the process of making significant changes to the dietetic internship. We anticipate the approval of a combined program (Dietetic Internship and MS degree) that will be completed over two academic years and start in the academic year 2022-2023. Students eligible to apply to the combined program must have completed an ACEND accredited Didactic Program in Dietetics.

The Department of Nutrition and Food Science will continue to offer a separate MS program in Nutritional Science the MS program is for:

  • Students wishing to complete an MS degree prior to applying to non-degree granting Dietetic Internship programs
  • Preparing students for careers in college teaching, healthcare, industry, community agencies, or graduate study beyond the master’s degree

The final year for our current post-baccalaureate Dietetic Internship will be 2021-2022.  Candidates considering the CSUF Dietetic Internship and/or applying to our program for the Spring 2022 DICAS match will be applying for the combined program (Dietetic Internship MS degree) where students will not be issued a verification statement until BOTH the 30 unit masters degree and minimum 1,000 supervised practice hours are completed. More details will be available as soon as approval is granted (anticipated August 2021).


Program Description

The California State University, Fresno Dietetic Internship is a 9-month, full-time, unpaid program with a culturally competent health promotion/disease prevention concentration. This internship prepares graduates to serve the diverse needs of the San Joaquin Valley and beyond. Interns complete supervised practice experiences in a variety of facilities in the Central San Joaquin Valley of California, including a veterans' hospital, a state prison, a school district, two private hospitals, an out-patient diabetes program and cooperative extension.   1. Completed a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution.
  2. Completed an approved Didactic Program in Dietetics (DPD) verification statement and or declaration of intent within the last 5 years.
  3. Earned a minimum cumulative and overall DPD of 3.0 GPA .
  4. Earned a minimum score of 138V/136Q  on the GRE General Test. GRE is NOT required for applicants for admittance in Fall 21
