Charles Boyer

Retired Dean 

Biography: Charles Boyer served as dean of the Jordan College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, California State University, Fresno from 2006-2014.

Prior to his position at California State University Fresno, Boyer was associate dean and associate director of the Agricultural Experiment Station, professor and head, Department of Horticulture, Oregon State University. At Pennsylvania State University, Dr. Boyer served as chairman, Intercollege Graduate Program in Genetics and professor of plant breeding and genetics, Department of Horticulture.

His successful tenure at Fresno State included the largest donation in California State University history, $29.4 million, which led to the building of the $24 million Jordan Agricultural Research Center. The 30,000-square foot, three story facility fosters collaboration between some of the brightest minds in agriculture, engineering, science and mathematics. 

In addition, Boyer was visiting professor at the Department of Vegetable Crops, University of Florida, assistant professor of Horticulture, Department of Horticulture, Rutgers University, postdoctoral scholar, Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics, University of California, Davis and laboratory instructor, Department of Biology, Eastern Oregon University.

Boyer earned his BS in biology at Eastern Oregon State College, his MS in genetics at the Pennsylvania State University and his Ph.D. in 1976 also at the Pennsylvania State University.
