Chapter 062 |
| On this page you will find an example of a letter requesting academic deans to help advertise the National Fellowship Competition and a letter to qualified seniors inviting them to apply. We have had requests from various chapters for help in reevaluating their communications strategies and methods, and provide these examples to aid others who are looking for similar information. |
| Letter Inviting Qualified Students to Apply Congratulations! Your academic performance has qualified you to compete in the national Phi Kappa Phi Fellowship competition. If you are planning to graduate in 2001 and enter a graduate school or professional program in 2001 or 2002, you should contact Dinese Bigget at 278-2061 or drop by the Office of the Dean, College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology in the Agricultural Sciences Building, Room 102, for fellowship information. The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi has established this fellowship to help academically successful students to pursue their first year of graduate or professional study. The fellow ship award is for $7,000. Nationally, 50 students will receive this award. A. Meritorious Award of $1,000 will also be awarded to 30 additional students. Our Fellowship Selection Committee will screen all applications received by our chapter and the one chosen to represent Fresno State will be entered in the national competition. Nationally, there are only 285 campuses competing. Last years nominee won one of the $7,000 fellowships, so your chances are very good. Please find a brochure on the fellowship enclosed. Applications are available now. The deadline for submitting your completed application is February 1, 2002. Winners will be announced by May 2001. Please contact Denise Biggert as soon as possible and good luck. |
| Letter Requesting Academic Deans' Support To: School Deans Re: NATIONAL FELLOWSHIP COMPETITION The national Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi needs your support and help by having your office and /or department chairs contact your top students who qualify to compete in the National PKP Fellowship Competition. As you may know, each spring Phi Kappa Phi awards fellowships to support students in their first year of graduate study. There are 50 fellowships given in the amount of $7,000 each, as well as 30 meritorious awards of $1,000 each. Only campuses that have a Phi Kappa Phi chapter are eligible, and each campus can submit only one entry. There are 285 university campuses eligible to compete this year making the chance of one of our students receiving an award fairly good. Our student nominee last year, Laura Hall, won a $7,000 fellowship and we have had many other recipients over the years. We do our best to make qualifying students aware of the fellowship competition, but always seem to have a rather lack-luster response from our top students. In order for our campus to continue to be competitive nationally, our top students, such as Laura Hall, must apply. We feel these students must have at least a 3.8 grade point average and have good writing skills in order to be competitive. They must also be preparing to enter a graduate school or professional program, such as medical school, in 1999 or 2000. Please help get the word out. Applications are available from Denise Biggert, Office of the Dean, College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, mail stop AS 79, extension 8-2061, located in the Agricultural Science Building, Room 102. Applications are available from November 1, 2000 through February 1, 2001. The earlier they are completed the better chance we have or rectifying mistakes. Enclosed please find samples of our fellowship brochure. Thank you for your help. |
