NOTES: Bert Taplin, who supplied this song, claimed to have written it around 1894. There are enough local Wisconsin references (the Tomahawk river, Wausau) that it seems likely that the version as we have it is indeed Taplin's work. But it was clearly inspired by one or another of the many logging songs of this basic type. - RBW
