The Grants.gov program management office was established, in 2002, as a part of the President's Management Agenda. Managed by the Department of Health and Human Services, Grants.gov is an E-Government initiative operating under the governance of the Office of Management and Budget. Under the President's Management Agenda, the office was chartered to deliver a system that provides a centralized location for grant seekers to find and apply for federal funding opportunities. The Grants.gov mission is to provide a common website for federal agencies to post discretionary funding opportunities and for grantees to find and apply to them. Using the Grants.gov system makes it faster, easier, and more cost-effective for grant applicants to electronically interact with federal grant-making agencies. The Grants.gov centralizes more than 1,000 different grant programs across federal grant-making agencies awarding more than $500 billion annually.

Grant Gopher

Grant Gopher was launched in September 2006 with the goal of setting up a system that researchers can get timely email notifications about new grants. The emails list grants closely matched to what the organization/researchers are looking for. The Grant Gopher's mission is to knock your socks off with an affordable service alerting you to available grants while they are open for application. This desire sprang from years of working in the nonprofit sector and knowing firsthand that most organizations struggle to stay on top of these opportunities. Grand Gopher reviews funders websites, financial information including IRS Form 990, and communicates directly with them.

NIH Grants and Funding

Founded in 1887, the National Institutes of Health today is one of the world's foremost medical research centers and the Federal focal point for medical research in the United States. The NIH, comprising 27 separate Institutes and Centers, is one of eight health agencies of the Public Health Service which, in turn, is part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. Simply described, the goal of NIH research is to acquire new knowledge to help prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat disease and disability, from the rarest genetic disorder to the common cold. The NIH mission is to uncover new knowledge that will lead to better health for everyone. NIH works toward that mission by conducting research in its own laboratories; supporting the research of non-Federal scientists in universities, medical schools, hospitals, and research institutions throughout the country and abroad; helping in the training of research investigators; and fostering communication of medical and health sciences information. NIH offers to fund for many types of grants, contracts, and even programs that help repay loans for researchers.
