Information for Poster Presentations
Submission of poster
Please complete the submission form by April 24, 2013. If you need to print your poster for this event, the College will cover the printing costs (using the poster printer in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences office). Please complete the poster request form and get the proper signatures before taking to the Earth and Environmental Sciences office.
Time and Place
On Tuesday, May 7, 2013, you will need to arrive to the Science II Courtyard at 2:00 p.m. in order to check in and receive your assigned number for your poster. Easels will be provided for your poster. Binder clips will be available at the check in table for your use.
While standing by your poster, wear a name tab (blank tags will be provided) and be prepared to answer any questions about your poster. During this time, a photographer will take a picture of you and your poster. We will email you a copy of the picture taken.
Poster session ends at 4:00 p.m. you are invited to stay for the Recognition of Student Achievement Ceremony immediately following the poster session. Posters may be left up for the rest of the day. You can pick them up in the Dean’s office the next day. (S2 301)
Dress
Business Casual – which means nice pants and collared shirts for men, and either nice pants and blouses, skirts or dresses for women. For the gentleman: you won’t look out of place if you decide to wear a tie and/or jacket, but you’re not required to do so. For everyone: please no jeans, shorts, sneakers, or flip-flops.

Information for graduates participating in the Graduate Hooding Ceremony
Registration
Summer 2012, Fall 2012 and Spring 2013 Graduates are invited to attend, but must register online for the hooding ceremony by April 26, 2013.
Cap, Gown, and Hood
Only those students dressed in proper academic regalia (cap, gown, and hood) will be allowed to participate. Graduates are responsible for ordering regalia through the Kennel Bookstore. Please contact the bookstore (559-278-4062) if you have any question. You must pick it up from the bookstore prior to the arriving to the ceremony. It will not be available for pick-up at the Satellite Student Union.
Location
Satellite Student Union is located at Maple and San Ramon Avenue. Graduates should look for signs directing them to the proper entrance.
Parking
Parking will be relaxed (no parking permit required) for all guests and participants is available in Lot P, which is located on Barstow and Maple Avenue.
Arrival Time and Check-in
Graduates must arrive by 5:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Science 1 building, with cap, gown and hood to check in and receive a name card. We may not be able to accommodate students arriving after 5:30 p.m. The ceremony will begin promptly at 6:30 p.m. and will last approximately 90 minutes. Only those students dressed in academic regalia will be allowed to participate. Until you reach the stage, you must have your name card with you at all times.
Master's Candidate Seating
College staff will line up the candidates by department outside the Satellite Student Union. The candidates will follow the Platform party, and Faculty into the Satellite Student Union, then proceed to the row of seats designated for each department and be seated. Ushers will be available for seating assistance. The first candidate in each row must carry a card bearing the name of the department.
During the ceremony, ushers on each side of the row will prompt candidates when to rise and move toward the stage. Please watch the ushers for the cue to rise. Candidates will exit their seats to the left and process to the stage.
Guest Seating
Each Master’s Candidate will receive 5 tickets for guest to attend the ceremony. Guests should enter through the main doors of the Satellite Student Union at 6:00 p.m. Please note that balloons, food, confetti, loud horns and strollers not allowed inside the Satellite Student Union. Handicapped seating is available.
Staging
You must give the card to the Reader of Names to receive recognition upon crossing the stage. The first candidate in each department must also give the Reader of Names the department card, which will be supplied immediately prior to the beginning of the ceremony. Only students possessing a name card will be allowed to cross the stage. Your faculty mentor will place the hood on you before you proceed to accept congratulations from your faculty, department chair and college dean. Master's candidates will wear their hoods for the entire duration of the ceremony.
Photography
As a courtesy to all in attendance, please have your guests refrain from advancing to the front of the stage to take photos as you are walking across. A professional photographer will be taking photos as graduates shake hands with the dean on stage. Graduates must include their mailing address on the back of their name card to receive complimentary proofs. After the ceremony, the stage will be available for additional graduate and guest photo opportunities.
Celebration Reception
We invite you and your family to stay and join the Dean, faculty and staff for a celebration reception immediately following the Ceremony on the west side lawn of the Satellite Student Union. We will serve light hors d’oeuvres, so please plan accordingly.
