Bridge to Doctorate

The Bridge-to-the-Doctorate program (BD)* is an NSF initiative within the LSAMP Program to provide former LSAMP baccalaureate degree graduates with a fellowship for graduate studies. The ultimate goal is to increase the number of underrepresented students that obtain a PhD degree in a STEM field.

CSU, Los Angeles has been designated as the site for 2018-2020 cohort of the CSU-Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation – Bridge to the Doctorate (LSAMP-BD) Program.

The LSAMP BD program offers outstanding support at the Master’s level, providing tuition, a generous living stipend ($32,000 each year), health insurance, funds for travel and research, and extensive academic support. This is a wonderful opportunity for students interested in pursuing advanced studies in Science, Engineering, and Math to gain research experience and receive support at the Master’s level in preparation for the Ph.D.

Students with questions may contact Dr. Katrina Yamazaki ( at 323.343.2086.

Please contact Lilia ( if you are interested in contacting other potential BD sites.
