Dr. Attar received his undergraduate (BS) and graduate (MS, Ph.D.) degrees in Chemistry at the University of Nevada, Reno.  He spent three years at the University of California-Davis as a Postdoctoral Research Associate where he performed research in different areas of organic and inorganic chemistry.  He also taught organic chemistry courses at UC Davis before starting his current faculty position at Fresno State in 2000.

Areas of Specialty

Dr. Attar currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in organic chemistry including CHEM 128A, 128B, 129A, 129B, and 230. He also teaches CHEM 10H (titled "Chemistry & Society"), a General Education course for Honors College students.

Dr. Attar directs both graduate and undergraduate research in synthetic organic / organometallic chemistry. Currently, the group members are pursuing three avenues of research

  1. Design and synthesis of chiral organic compounds and their transition-metal complexes for potential applications in asymmetric organic reactions; synthetic methodology.
  2. Bio-organometallic chemistry of ferrocene derivatives.
  3. Synthesis and characterization of organometallic compounds with interesting structural and/or physical properties (e.g. luminescent compounds; chemical sensors).
