The William Asberry Gilcrease Collection

William Asberry (“Berry”) Gilcrease was born May 6, 1893, in Lemoore, CA, upon hearing about Teddy Roosevelt’s hunting stories, big game hunting became his passion until the mid-1960’s.  His collection of trophy’s was donated to the Department of Biology and includes animals from Africa (a black rhino, a lion, a cape buffalo, a leopard, a pair of elephant tusks, and several types of gazelle), India (a Bengal tiger), as well as from North America (a bighorn sheep, a moose,  a bison, a pronghorn, grizzly bear and brown bear). This collection is visited by over 2,000 school children and other visitors every year. Please call the Department of Biology office at 559-278-2001 for access and further information.
