Welcome to the College of Science and Mathematics (CSM)

The College of Science and Mathematics provides professional training at the undergraduate and graduate levels to serve as a foundation for a career in science or mathematics, to provide preprofessional training in preparation for careers in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, veterinary medicine and other professions or for continued study at the graduate level.

Highlights

  • The College received $100,000 from Ms. Tamsen Munger to support scholarships in the physical sciences
  • Dr. Hwan Youn was awarded a $415,000 grant from the National Institute of Health to study bacterial transcription factors.
  • Dr. Mamta Rawat was awarded a $103,800 grant from the National Institute of Health to study staphylococcus aureus and the role of thiols in drug resistance.
  • The National Science Foundation (NSF) granted $510,000 to Dr. Yongsheng Gao for high-energy physics work with the ATLAS Project
  • Dr. Tom Forgacs hosted students from around the country this summer for a mathematics research experience funded for $198,000 by the NSF
  • The Keck Foundation donated $250,000 for the Computational Science Center
  • Dr. Joan Otomo-Corgel and Mr. Richard Corgel made a $75,000 commitment to the Science Undergraduate/Graduate Research Experience Program (SUGREP)
  • The Fresno State Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society received the organization's highest award for a student chapter,   "The Outstanding Chapter Award" and was also being recognized as  a "Green Chemistry Student Chapter"

The College is moving forward with course redesign efforts to improve student success.
