Center for the Scholarly Advancement of Teaching and Learning (CSALT)

“Ultimately, the measure of success for the scholarship of teaching movement will not be the degree to which it can…discover solutions worth implementing, but the extent to which it is successful in discovering the problems worth pursuing.”

-Randy Bass, 1999 Professor in American Studies Georgetown University

Scholarship of Learning and Teaching Program (SoLT)

Goals

  • Assemble faculty interested in sharing ideas and expertise in teaching and learning that will eventually result in submitting manuscripts in the field of the scholarship of teaching and learning (SoTL): teaching techniques that worked, assessments of changes in practice, reflections on years of teaching experience, comparisons of courses and/or changes in students across time; formal research; or summaries and analyses of prior studies.
  • Assemble faculty that will share cross-disciplinary techniques for improving student learning through teaching and provide resources and support for faculty interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning.

As part of this growing initiative, CSALT will sponsor an annual SoLT Scholar from each college each academic year. The Scholars will be chosen from nominees based on previous publications and presentations in the scholarship of learning and teaching. Scholars will lead a Special Interest Group within their respective colleges for the academic year with the goal of supporting members to publish or present scholarly papers on learning and teaching within their academic field of study. For more information regarding this program, please contact Jennifer Ivie Barth or your college's scholar.
