Student Experiences

YOU MUST HAVE A POSITION SECURED TO ENROLL, THIS COURSE DOES NOT DO INTERNSHIP PLACEMENT.

The internship course is an elective, not a requirement of the Business Adminstration/Economics degree. Your position must meet the requirements below, it is not the burden of the faculty to deviate from these guidelines to make a position "work" for credit.

Minimum requirements for enrollment in the Internship Course (191I or 195I option course):

  • Must have already declared Business Administration, Economics, or Fashion Merchandising as a major (pre-business majors can not earn academic elective credit in 191/195-level courses)
  • Have completed BA105W AND at least one other course in your option
  • Overall GPA of 2.25 and GPA of 2.50 or higher over the 2 semesters
  • The position must be relevant to your option (for example, if you are a Finance option you can't do a Marketing internship for academic credit)
  • Complete at least 150 hours of a paid or unpaid supervised internship; your supervisor MUST be willing and able to sign off on all forms and evaluations
    • All internship sites are subject to OSPD and university review. All worksites MUST have current ELA and Risk Assessment paperwork on file with the University. Petitions at unapproved worksites, for whom paperwork cannot be obtained, will be moved to units-only internship option.
    • Over-site/management of your position provided by a professional staff member. You may NOT be supervised or evaluated by a member of your family, should they be employed at the same business. You may also not complete a traditional internship at a company that is owned and/or operated by a family member. If you fall into either of these categories, please indicate this on the petition and we will contact you about the project-based internship option.
    • Your supervisor must have reliable access to email, and be able and willing to sign AdobeSign forms.
  • If you are currently employed at your site, your Internship must NOT include any of your current duties. Please contact us to discuss options if you wish to use your current work site for a project-based internship.
  • If you are found to have at any point during the semester to have submitted inaccurate information or misrepresented the job site or your internship, the Academic Petition is considered void and you will receive NC in the course. University sanctions may apply if academic dishonesty is determined to have occurred.
  • Submitting a petition does NOT guarantee approval for academic credit.  Petitions may denied by the internship faculty for any of the reasons above, including if the faculty member suspects there is mis-information being presented. If you are unsure if your position will count, please contact us BEFORE you apply.

Information you need to collect BEFORE you start the enrollment process. APPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED STARTING NOVEMBER 1, 2023 and may take up to 5 business days to process.

  • You supervisors name, email, and telephone number
  • Pay status (paid or unpaid*)
  • Hours you will work per week, start date and (approximate) end date
  • Your position description/job duties
