Mission, Vision and Values

Mission Statement

We aim to provide the highest quality education and training of recreation professionals in the Central Valley. Our nationally accredited curriculum centers on relevant project-based and experiential learning methods designed to foster career preparation. Students graduating from our program will be able to implement recreation programs and manage facilities serving diverse populations.


The vision of the Department of Recreation Administration is to be the Central California center of achievement for developing recreation professionals. Our faculty, staff and students in the fields of Adventure Recreation and Tourism; Commercial Recreation and Event Planning; Community Recreation and Youth Services; Sports and Entertainment Facility Management; and Therapeutic Recreation work together to create value for teaching and learning through application focused projects and research.

Our graduates are leaders in a wide variety of recreation settings including: city and county agencies, state and federal parks and sites, youth agencies, community benefit organizations, camps, correctional facilities, resorts, membership clubs, travel and tourism, hotel guest services, employee services, armed forces recreation services, convention and visitor bureaus, stadiums and arenas, outdoor adventure programs, special event companies, sports clubs, older adult and assisted living facilities, rehabilitation and psychiatric hospitals, and programs for people with disabilities.
