Gregory Thatcher, Ph.D.

Experience and Research: Dr. Thatcher is Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health within the College of Health and Human Services. His research interests include adolescent health-risk behavior including body-image and perception, the relationship between obesity/physical activity, and sexuality (especially date/acquaintance rape prevention).
Dr. Thatcher has taught courses in Contemporary Health Issues, Human Sexuality and Health Behavior. Dr. Thatcher has been involved in several community projects involving children's issues including as an advisory board member with Fresno Planned Parenthood; alcohol and drug prevention programs, violence prevention programs, Community Drug and Alcohol Council, Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Program, and the American Bar Association's National Teen Dating Violence Prevention Initiative.
Christopher F. Lucey, Ph.D., LPCC, LMFT
Education: Ph.D. in Counselor Education, Kent State University; MS in Counseling, West Chester
University; BA in Psychology, Allentown College of Saint Francis de Sales.
Experience and Research: Dr. Lucey is Associate Professor in the Department of Counseling, Special Education, and Rehabilitation, Kremen School of Education and Human Development. His research interests include adolescent suicide and crisis intervention. He is also interested in assessment and diagnosis, family therapy, and adolescent counseling.
Dr. Lucey has taught courses in Techniques in Counseling, Practicum in Counseling, Psychopathology and the DSM-IV, Child and Adolescent Therapy, Practicum in Marriage and Family Therapy, Field Placement in Marriage and Family Therapy, Supervision in Counseling, Independent Study and Project in Counseling.
His research experience includes family environmental factors and adolescent suicide risk, the family contraction project, constructing a solutions time-line: creating possibilities in counseling, site based counseling in elementary schools, history and psychometric properties of the Gestalt Contact Styles Questionnaire and counseling and therapy for couples and children.
Marianne Jackson, Ph.D., B.C.B.A
Education: M.A. and Ph.D. in Psychology with an emphasis in Behavior Analysis, University of
Nevada, Reno; Board certified Behavior Analyst.
Experience and Research: Dr. Jackson is Assistant Director of the Central California Autism Center within the Psychology Department, College of Science and Mathematics. She is the current professor of the CVRC Parenting class and is also in talks with them to develop new behavioral intervention services to serve a variety of regional clients who exhibit problem behavior or behaviors that interfere with ongoing activities and impact quality of life. She has also taught other courses such as: Ethics in Behavior Analysis, Applied Behavior Analysis, Community Interventions, Practicum Skills for Behavior Analysts, Learning and Related Issues, Human Learning and Behavior and Functional Assessment.
Dr. Jackson's research interests include treatment of aberrant behavior including but not limited to aggression, self-injurious behavior, self-stimulatory behavior, enuresis (toilet training), and language development.
Amanda Adams, Ph.D., B.C.B.A

Experience and Research: Dr. Adams is Assistant Professor in the Psychology Department and the Clinical Director at the Central California Autism Center, College of Science and Mathematics. Her teaching experience includes: Graduate Ethics, Applied Behavior Analysis, Supervised Field Experience, Graduate Functional Assessment, Graduate Practicum, Independent Study, Methods and Assessment, The Psychology of Dreams, Conditioning and Learning Lab, and General Psychology.
Dr. Adams research interests focus on early intervention services for children with autism.
Helda Pinzon Perez, Ph.D.

University, Fresno and Certified Health Education Specialist.
Experience and Research: Dr. Pinzon Perez is Associate Professor in the Department of Health Science in the Department of Public Health, College of Health and Human Services. Dr. Pinzon Perez teaches courses in community health and health promotion, including: Children's Health, Rural Health, Principles of Health Education, Health Behavior Change and Advanced Health Promotion.
Her research interests include childhood overweight/obesity, international health issues, multicultural health issues and Hispanic/Latino Health. She has also been involved in child-related community projects such as The Effects of Television on Food Selection Patterns of Hispanic/Latino Farmworking Mothers. She was also the recipient of a Fulbright Fellowship for research on diabetes in children.

Experience and Research: At California State University, Fresno, Dr. Pam Lane-Garon, Educational Psychologist and Mediator, directs the Mediator Mentors program in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development. Mediator Mentors is a university-public school partnership in which future teachers, counselors and school psychologists and social workers support the development of conflict resolution skills in school children. Professor Karen DeVoogd coordinates and Mrs. Carolyn Burns assists. Collaborators have been Fresno Unified, The Bonner Center for Character Education, WestEd, Spano Industries and the Garabedian Foundation. Mediator Mentors has developed programs in over 60 elementary and middle schools. Other partnerships since 1998 have been The Fresno State Peace and Conflict Studies Program coordinated by Dr. Art Wint, The Center for Research, Evaluation, Assessment and Dissemination (CREAD), The Friends of Civic Engagement, Rotary Fresno and University Outreach Services. Teachers and students in the public schools receive eight to ten hours of communication and conflict resolution training and university students coach and mentor at lunch periods. Over 5,000 children and teachers in Hanford, Sanger, Central, Fresno and Clovis Unified Schools have participated to date. Both ongoing research and service are program goals.
Constance Jones, Ph.D.

Experience and Research: Dr. Jones is the Professor of Psychology at California State University, Fresno. Her research focuses on personality and psychological health change across the lifespan. Most of her research uses statistical techniques particularly well-suited to the application of long-term longitudinal data. These studies (including the Berkeley Growth Study, the Berkeley Guidance Study, and the Oakland Growth Study) began with young children in 1929, and are still on-going. She has also taught courses in Introduction to Statistics; Research Design and Experimental Methodology; Supervised Field Experience; Honors Seminar in Psychology; Seminar in Research Methods and Theoretical Issues; Teaching, Tutoring, and Statistical Consultation in Psychology; Seminar in Laboratory Teaching.
Marianne Jones, Ed.D.

Experience and Research: Dr. Jones is Associate Professor in the Child Development Department in the Department of Child, Family and Consumer Sciences, College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. Dr. Jones has most recently taught the following courses: Child Development, Play and Learning, Developmentally Appropriate Curriculum: Foundations and Models, Beginning and Advanced Observing the Development of Children, Action Research in the Classroom, Advocacy and Policy Development and Portfolio Development. In addition, Dr. Jones has taught Multicultural Perspectives on Children and Families, Middle Childhood, Adolescent Development, Infant and Toddler Development and Beginning and Advanced Child Development Practica.
Her research interests include authentic assessment in higher education, early care and education leadership and naturalistic observation methods in child study. Dr. Jones curriculum development and community work is tightly interwoven with the needs and interests of the early care and education community. She developed and coordinates the Child Development Practitioner Option, a degree completion program for ECE professionals. She leads the Early Care and Education Workforce Development Task Force for the Fresno County Office of Education, and is serving on the California Department of Education Panel of Experts currently developing competencies for early care and education professionals in California.

Experience and Research: Dr. Weir is Assistant Professor in the Department of Counseling, Special Education, & Rehabilitation (CSER), Kremen School of Education and Human Development. He has taught a variety of courses, but he especially enjoys teaching and researching in the areas of adoption, foster care, human/family development, MFT theory, couples counseling, sexual dysfunction, Whole Family Theraplay¨, and child play therapy. As a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in California, he currently provides therapy at LDS Family Services and also maintains a small private practice.

Experience and Research: Dr. Muscat is Associate Professor/Victimology Coordinator in the Criminology Department in the College of Social Sciences. Her research is in the general area of family violence (e.g., child abuse/neglect, intimate partner violence, sexual assault, stalking, elder abuse), victimology and violence against women. Dr. Muscat's teaching experience includes Family Violence, Victimology, Legal Policy and Victim Services, Victim Services Program Management and Promising Practices in Victimology. She has been involved in community projects such as: evaluating the Family to Family Program in Fresno County and evaluating the Team Decision Making Model in Fresno County.
Christine Edmondson, Ph.D.
Education: Ph.D. and M.A. in Psychology, Purdue University; B.A. in Psychology, Indiana University.
Experience and Research: Dr. Edmondson is Associate Professor in the Psychology Department in the College of Science and Mathematics. Her research interests focus on understanding, diagnosing, and treatment of mood disorders, anxiety disorders and anger disorders; culture, race, ethnicity, and gender effects on anger expressions.
She has taught courses in Multi-cultural Psychology, Introduction to Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy, Abnormal Psychology, Psychopathology, Emotional Disorders, Psychology of Emotion, Personal Adjustment and Introduction to Clinical Psychology. Dr. Edmondson's community projects involving children's issues have included: 2000 Children Now California Report Card, 2000 Friends of Proposition 10, 1999 Fresno County Children and Families First Commission Strategic Planning Committee, and 1999 Latino Mental Health Task Force.
Virginia Rondero Hernandez, Ph.D., L.C.S.W.

Experience and Research: Dr. Rondero Hernandez is Associate Professor in the Social Work Education Department, College of Health and Human Services. She has taught courses in the area of social work research, human behavior and the social environment and social work practice.
She is involved in conducting community based policy research and program evaluation in the areas of substance abuse, mental health, child welfare and social service delivery. Her research projects have included the Spirit of Woman program evaluation, Students Target for Opportunities program evaluation, Methamphetamine Recovery Project, Children's Mental Health Transition evaluation, and Proteus Inc. program evaluation for the Rural Teenage Pregnancy Information and Education Program.
VaNee VanVleck, Ph.D.
Education: Ph.D. in Economics, University of Iowa; M.A. in Economics, Columbia University, New
Experience and Research: Dr. VanVleck is Assistant Professor in Economics, Craig School of Business. Her research emphases are applied microeconomics, issues of labor, health and the health care sector. Dr. VanVleck was a Postdoctoral Fellow in Public Health and Alcohol Studies, funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism (NIAAA) at the Prevention Research Center and the Alcohol Research Group in Berkeley, California. During the fellowship, Dr. VanVleck was mentored in the Drug and Alcohol Research Team (DART) in the Division of Research (Northern California), Kaiser Permanente in Oakland. Dr. VanVleck's most recent research has focused on the adverse effects of alcohol abuse on individuals' incomes and likelihood employment. She has also published in the area of technological networks and transportation.
Kathie Reid, Ph.D.

Experience and Research: Dr. Reid is the Associate Professor in Child Development and the Director of the Mentoring Institute in the Child, Family and Consumer Sciences, College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. She has taught courses in: Lifespan Development, Introduction to Child and Adolescent Development, Multicultural Perspectives on Children and Families, Advanced Child Development Theory and Play and Special Topics (research on Environmental Organization and Block Play).
Dr. Reid's research involvement has been in: The Young Child's Development of Racial Attitudes; Fostering the Young Child's Creativity; Nutrition in Early Childhood; and Emotional Development in Early Childhood. Her research interests include: children's use of multi-ethnic literature in early childhood classrooms, environmental organization in early childhood classrooms (how arrangement of materials, schedule, and teacher behavior impacts child behavior), block play, relationship between family sleeping arrangements and attachment, and adult interracial friendships.

Lisa Herzig, Ph.D., RD, CDE

Experience and Research: Dr. Herzig is Assistant Professor of Dietetics in the Department of Food Science and Nutrition, College of Agricultural Sciences and Technology. Additionally, she is the dietetics program director and helps to coordinate the undergraduate and graduate programs. She has taught courses in the Introduction to the Dietetics Profession; Nutrition and the Lifecycle; Nutrition Assessment; Medical Nutrition Therapy; Food and Communications and Graduate Seminar.
Dr. Herzig's research interests are in the effects of pistachios on metabolic syndrome and the effects of pistachios on inflammation.

Her research interests are in nutrition counseling and dietetics education.
Katie D. Dyer, Ph.D.

Experience and Research: Dr. Dyer is Assistant Professor in Child and Family Services in the Child, Family and Consumer Sciences Department, College of Agricultural Sciences and technology. Her current research explores attachment cognitions of toddlers in relation to sleep and family history. The unifying theme of her research agenda is an interest in parenting practices pertaining to infant sleep, and how those strategies (such as co-sleeping and sleep training) are related to attachment and emotional development. In addition, she conducts evaluation research to explore the effects of a developmental pediatric intervention called Healthy Steps at a local medical clinic.
Jean Ritter, Ph.D.

Experience and Research: Dr. Ritter is Professor in the Psychology Department, College of Science and Mathematics. Her research interests examine aspects of facial appearance such as age appearance, gender appearance and attractiveness that influence our perceptions of others, our social relationships and our behaviors and traits. She has taught courses in; Developmental Research and Inquiry for Practitioners; Developmental Psychology and Graduate Seminar in Social Development. Dr. Ritter has also been involved in several community projects such as featured speaker with D. Youngclarke and K. Carey at a workshop sponsored by CASA of Mendocino County, Ukiah and Fort Bragg, CA, Sept. 2001 on Optimizing Care forChildren0 to 5 Years Old. She has also been an invited presenter with D. Youngclarke at the Infant Family Mental Health Conference sponsored by CASA of Fresno County, Fresno, CA, October, 2000 on the topic of Attachment and Multiple Placements, among many other projects.

Marilyn Wilson, Ph.D.

Experience and Research: Dr. Wilson is Associate Professor in the School of Psychology, College of Science and Mathematics. Michael “Misha” Thackrey, Ph.D.

Experience and Research: Dr. Thackrey is Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology, College of Science and Mathematics. She has taught courses in Abnormal Psychology, Introduction to Psychology and Introduction to Clinical Psychology. Dr. Thackrey has also been involved in community projects which have included Martial Arts of Fresno for Special Needs Kids.
Her research interests are in Clinical and Sports Psychology.

Experience and Research: Dr. Gilbert is the Sport Psychology Option Coordinator in the Kinesiology Department, College of Health and Human Services. His research interests include: youth sport coaching, coach and teacher development, sport psychology, and youth physical activity promotion. He has taught courses in: Coaching Concepts; Foundations of Sport & Exercise Psychology, Measurement & Evaluation, Research Methods in Kinesiology, Psychology of Coaching & Talent Development and Psychobiology of Sport & Exercise. Dr. Gilbert is also involved in the following research projects: quality teaching in youth sport, youth sport coach development and school- based youth physical activity promotion.
Janice Peterson, Ph.D.
Education: Ph.D. in Economics, University of Nebraska; M.A. in Agricultural Economics, University
of Wisconsin; B.A. in Economics, California State University, Fresno
Experience and Research: Before joining the faculty at California State University, Fresno, Dr. Peterson was a faculty member at Wells College and at the State University of New York, Fredonia, where her areas of specialty included the economic status of women, welfare policy, and economics education (curriculum and pedagogy). She also worked on welfare reform, workforce development, and retirement policy issues in Washington, D.C. at the Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR) and the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO). She is the co-editor of The Elgar Companion to Feminist Economics and The Economic Status of Women under Capitalism. Her work has also been published in a number of edited volumes and economics journals.
