ADVANCED TRAINING

 MASTER, home to the Statewide Adult Protective Services (APS) Training, collaborates with stakeholders and experts in the Aging and Adult Services field to develop and deliver advanced training for APS workers, supervisors and their multi-disciplinary partners. Advanced courses are developed in both the in-person and eLearning modalities. These trainings are intended for advanced level Adult Protective Services workers and their MDT partners (e.g. public guardians, public health nurses working with the elderly, mental health professionals, etc.).

The eLearning course is a dynamic, multi-disciplinary advanced training on client decision-making/capacity and approaches for more effective interactions and case outcomes (1.5 CEs).

California APS Standards for Consistency in Determining Findings eLearning Part 1 and 2

In these dynamic, interactive 60 minute online trainings, participants will utilize the California APS Standards for Consistency in Determining Findings Guiding Principles and Standards Matrix to work case scenarios. These trainings will provide clarity on what information to gather during an investigation, what is and is not important in evaluating the information, and guidance in interpreting the information. The Guiding Principles and Standards Matrix make the decision-making process in determining findings easier, enhance effectiveness, and reduce the stress often associated with determining findings (1 CE per eLearning).

Framework for Determining Dependent Adult Status eLearning

In this dynamic, interactive 90-minute online training, participants will utilize the Determining Dependent Adult Status Guide and Dependent Adult Definition Chart to work case scenarios. This training provides more clarity about what information to gather and guidance in interpreting it. The Framework presented will make the determination of dependency status easier and reduce the uncertainty associated with the process (1.5 CEs).

Undue Influence Committed by Professionals eLearning

Investigating and uncovering the evidence needed to confirm financial abuse by undue influence is difficult. When that crime is committed by professionals (doctors, attorneys, ministers, accountants, to name but a few) it becomes even more daunting. This eLearning course is an advanced course on the topic (1.5 CEs).

The Revised SOC242 eLearning

The Adult Protective Services and County Services Block Grant Monthly Statistical Report known as the SOC 242, is the state mandated form each county completes on a monthly basis. The form tracks how many reports were taken, how many investigations were conducted, the types of abuse allegations investigated, the number of cases completed and the findings of the investigations among other things (1.5 CEs).

Biopsychosocial Assessment Instructor-Led Training

This interactive and engaging training will allow participants to identify key indicators that differentiate between medical, mental health, and substance abuse problems, recognize common medication problems and interactions, discuss when a mental or physical assessment by a professional is needed, and more.

 

Effectively Engage with Reluctant Clients to Develop Service Plans That Work Instructor-Led Training

In this training, participants will learn to identify the factors that contribute to a client’s or family member’s resistance, gain skills that would enhance the movement towards growth and change, gain skills that would minimize the fear of change, and remember the basic tenets of self-care for helpers.

 

Legal, Ethical and Practice IssuesInstructor-Led Training

In this important and engaging training, participants will be able to explain APS’ authority to intervene in self neglect cases, identify state laws that apply to self-neglect, describe basic principles of legal capacity, discuss ethical principles that apply in self neglect cases, and more.

 

Client Decision-Making and Capacity Instructor-Led Training

A dynamic, multi-disciplinary training on client decision-making/capacity and approaches for more effective interactions and case outcomes. Activities include: straightforward didactic information, lecture, video, and interactive, hands-on individual, small and large group activities that capitalize on advanced knowledge and skills.
