Summer Vet Camp 2011
Summer Vet Camp is a young person’s ticket to the real and exciting world of Veterinary Medicine. Veterinary experts will provide hands-on experiences, live animals, technology demonstrations and labs, and explain how to prepare for a career in Veterinary Medicine. A team of qualified veterinarians and veterinary technicians will lead the program. Discover your role in this dynamic field!

Campers will:
• observe animal physical examinations and record data in patient’s chart
• explore pet health care issues
• look at real X-rays and learn what they can tell us about the condition of an animal
• observe an Ultrasound exam on an animal
• perform lab diagnostics
• learn how to use a microscope to look for
internal parasites
• learn how to suture
• practice bandaging
• participate in mock surgery
• encounter exotic animals
• discuss veterinary ethics
• investigate veterinary pathology
• explore herd animal health
• discover how veterinarians use math and
science skills
• investigate career opportunities in Veterinary Science
The camp fee includes all instruction, materials, laboratory supplies, take-home suture kit, stethoscope, back pack, and scrub shirt for each camper.

Instructors:
Vet Camp Coordinator Donna Shepard, B.S., is a
Registered Veterinary Technician. She has over 10 years of emergency and critical care veterinary nursing, has taught veterinary nursing at the college level, and works as a veterinary technician in Fresno.
Todd Conlan, DVM, is a graduate of the University of California at Davis and earned his bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from California State University, Fresno. He currently is a veterinarian at Waterhouse Animal Hospital.
Paul Crosbie, Ph.D. (U.C. Davis), is an Associate Professor of Parasitology and Evolution in the Department of Biology at California State University, Fresno. He is the pre-veterinary adviser for Biology majors and conducts research on the evolution and ecology of parasites, chiefly of domestic animals and wildlife.
Lisa Ferretti, DVM, specializes in veterinary radiology and ultrasound imaging.
Sue Lynch, DVM, practices exotic animal medicine and specializes in exotic zoo animal medicine and health.
Cheryl Waterhouse, DVM, owns a successful
veterinary hospital and won the Fresno Bee’s People’s Choice Award in 2005-2011 for Best Veterinarian.
Laura Williamson, DVM, earned her veterinary degree from the University of California at Davis and received her bachelor's degree in Animal Science at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo. Dr. Williamson currently is a veterinarian at Waterhouse Animal Hospital in Fresno.
