China: Farm to Fork – Agricultural and Food Production Practices

See first-hand how Chinese agricultural and food production practices take place. Learn how product is harvested, packed, tested, cooled, stored, transported, branded, exported and much more. Participants will tour facilities in several regions to see how food products are prepared for the market. The program includes a seminar on Chinese business etiquette and visits to Chinese partner universities. Special cultural and sightseeing tours are also scheduled.

Salamanca, Spain is a culturally rich city in the historical country of Spain. Much of the history of the Americas and their cultural heritage relates to the influence of Spain. Students live with host families and are immersed in Spanish language and culture. Included in the overall cost of the trip is lodging with families, half-day classes, excursions, lectures and cultural tours. Tours will be to Oporto, Portugal and Segovia, and Avila, Spain.
Students will gain an educational experience that will stay with them for the rest of their lives as one of the most influential periods in their education. They will live the culture and language that they have been studying. They will see for themselves historical sites that most people only read about or see in photos and movies.

Join us to explore Finland, a country of five million in the northwest corner of Europe. This three-unit course is targeted at interested in learning more about the history, theory and practice of the Nordic welfare society with renowned Finnish faculty. Small seminars will give participants a highly interactive experience. Consistently ranked among the happiest of nations and top in world in education, Finland has an extensive social welfare system. We will have field visits to day care, senior, and refugee centers to explore how this system works. Based in the red brick city of Tampere founded in 1778, and situated between two beautiful lakes, we will enjoy the midnight sun as we learn more about Finland and its social science research traditions. At the end of the visit, students should have a more in-depth knowledge of Finland and its society, the Nordic welfare society model, as well as social science qualitative research theories and methods.
