Course Description

The class will provide bilingual participants with an extensive understanding to medical interpreting techniques, theory, concepts, and skills. Extensive coverage in medical subspecialty terminology: anatomy, medical specialties (children and adult), understanding legal consents, and living wills. There will be an introduction to Administrative Interpreting covering examinations and procedures, administrative interpreting versus medical interpreting. This class will further develop the bilingual participants interpreting skills; build terminology and prepare them for oral medical/healthcare certification exam.

Instructor:  Ana Meyer, CHI, is a graduate of California State University, Fresno with a double major in Spanish and Mass Communication and Journalism.  She is a Certified Healthcare Interpreter and has been working as a professional interpreter for the last ten years.  She is experienced in criminal law, administrative hearings and medical interpreting.  Ms. Meyer works as a staff medical interpreter and trainer at Valley Children's Hospital of Central California.  She has been teaching medical interpreting for five years and legal interpreting for three years.
