USAC Supplemental Scholarship Materials
One or two letters of recommendation may be required for consideration. At least one of these letters must be from an instructor or professor with whom you have studied. You may send these via mail, fax, or email. See contact information below.
You may be contacted to submit additional scholarship application materials (resume, project description, etc.) for scholarships for which you are eligible.
USAC Member University Scholarships
Students attending a USAC Member University should consult your home university study abroad office for details. If available, apply directly to your home university.
Legacy Scholarship
In celebration of USAC's 30th year, the Legacy Scholarship was developed to recognize the long-standing history of our organization. This scholarship serves to honor alumni and the impact of study abroad on their lives.
Application process:
- Apply online through your USAC Student Gateway account. Click on “My Programs” and find the Legacy Scholarship Application in “Financing your Study Abroad” under the Documents tab.
- USAC alumnus/alumna should provide a short letter or email of support (see page 1 for contact details) and address the following questions: How has your experience on a USAC program affected your life or career? Why is this Legacy Scholarship applicant a good candidate for this award?
Award amounts: $300 for Summer/January, $500 for semester.

Term and conditions: Only one Legacy Scholarship will be given per student. Subsequent terms may qualify for a Returning Student discount.

Félix Menchacatorre Memorial Scholarship
Felix Menchacatorre, 59, was a native of Bilbao/Getxo and earned a law degree and an MBA from the University of Deusto and a Doctorate in Spanish Literature from the University of Cincinnati. Felix taught on and directed the Spain programs for 25 years, building programs in San Sebastian, Bilbao, Madrid and Alicante. Thousands of students have participated on these programs over the years. Additionally, he was instrumental in developing other programs and shaping what USAC is today.
Felix was a true humanist who genuinely cared for his students. He was loyal, capable, a man of integrity, trustworthy, and totally dedicated to his students, friends, family and USAC. He was a great friend to those who make up the USAC family, had a wonderful sense of humor and lived life to the fullest.
Award amount: $500 for semester
Application process: You will be required to submit a personal statement (see contact info on page 1) in 750 words or less which addresses the following questions: Why do you want to study abroad in Bilbao or San Sebastian? What do you hope to learn or bring back from your experience? No letters of recommendation are required.

Lüneburg Work-Study Grant
Students in Germany are offered the opportunity to work in the USAC office for grant funds. Submit a resume and cover letter for consideration (see contact information on page 1). Interested students will be interviewed by the Resident Director once abroad.
Spring 2013 ONLY
Prague Scholarship
USAC will offer ten scholarships to students studying in Prague during Spring 2013. All students accepted to the USAC Prague, Czech Republic program are eligible.
Award amount: $500
Application process: Follow the USAC online application process detailed on page 1 of this document. After completing your online application, submit a personal statement of 750 words or less. No letters of recommendation are required.

Massey University Scholarship
Massey University, USAC’s longtime partner in hosting students in New Zealand, is offering scholarships for students traveling to New Zealand in 2012. Applicants to any of USAC’s three campus locations (Palmerston North, Auckland, or Wellington) are eligible.
Award Amount: $400
Application process: Submit one letter of recommendation and a personal statement in 750 words or less which address the following topics (submit via email, fax, or mail - see contact info on page 1): Why do you want to study in New Zealand? How does attending Massey University help you achieve your personal and academic goals? Why are you a good candidate for this scholarship?

University of Oslo Scholarship
Students attending a program in Oslo will receive an application upon acceptance to University of Oslo.
Application process: Submit one letter of recommendation (submit via email, fax, or mail - see contact info on page 1) and a personal statement in 750 words or less which address the following topics: Why do you want to study in Oslo? What personal and academic goals would you like to achieve while abroad? Why are you a good candidate for this scholarship?

University of Stirling Scholarship
The University of Stirling has provided scholarship funds exclusively for USAC students in 2012-13 to honor USAC’s 30th Anniversary. USAC has matched these scholarships to double the number of scholarships available. All students accepted to the USAC Stirling, Scotland program are eligible.

What personal and academic goals would you like to achieve while abroad? Why are you a good candidate for this scholarship?

Paid Teaching Opportunity: The Basque Country
USAC students enrolled in the USAC program for either Bilbao or San Sebastián have the opportunity to apply for a paid teaching assistantship. Once you are onsite you will complete an application and have an interview with the internship coordinator. Hours range from 3 to 12 hours per week for 150 to 600 EUR per month. How much students work depends on class schedule, necessities of the local schools, and how much time they are willing to dedicate.
