Kitchen, Garage, and Garbage Can Science—An Independent Study Course
This course is designed for elementary teachers in grades K-6 who desire to increase their content knowledge in physical science and sharpen teaching skills. This course combines science theory with hands-on experiments. Teachers will be provided with high interest, ready-to-use science investigations. Each of the activities utilizes easy-to-find materials, many of which are included in the course materials, and all are demonstrated on a videotape.
The concepts in this course cover magnetism, air pressure, gravity, energy, and the properties of air, oil, and water. Students will also engage in some simple chemistry experiments using vinegar, baking soda, butter and other foods. Teachers will also have the opportunity to explore the information-rich environment of the Internet as they locate relevant learning experiences. Assignments are available for use with or without student participation.
A full refund, less a $10 processing fee, will be granted to participants requesting a refund within 30 days of the registration date. All materials must be returned to the instructor unused in order to receive a refund. No refunds will be made after 30 days past registration date. Approved refunds will be mailed within four to six weeks.
