Accreditation and State Regulatory Authorizations

Authorization Details

Many states are in the process of establishing distance education authorization rules in order to regulate out-of-state educational institutions that offer degree programs to their residents. The rules vary from state to state, but generally apply to all public and private universities, including the California State University system.

CSU ACCREDITATION & STATE REGULATORY AUTHORIZATIONS

Fresno State is authorized to provide distance education programs at all locations where the California State University system has received approval. Fresno State online degree programs include 100% online instruction, including culminating experiences, from instructors and organizations in the state of California.

Distance education authorization only impacts prospective students who are interested in completing a Fresno State degree or certificate program while simultaneously residing in another state. Fresno State offers several fully-online programs which can be completed in another state, including the Master of Science in Water Resource Management and the Certificate of Advanced Study in Geographic Information Systems.

If you are interested in applying for one of these programs but live in a state where Fresno State is not authorized to offer distance education programs, the University may not be able to offer you a seat in the program.

Due to the nature of individual state regulations, Fresno State may not accept applications from students who are seeking to complete an online degree or certificate program while simultaneously residing in one of the following states:

  • Arkansas
  • Minnesota

Please contact Renee Camacho at 559.278.0165 or recamacho@csufresno.edu if you have any questions or believe that you may be impacted by distance education authorization.
