About the Public Health Consortium

Purpose & Goals

Madera County Health DepartmentThe Central California Public Health Consortium (the Consortium) is a collaborative effort involving the Public Health Directors in the counties of Fresno, Kern, Kings, Madera, Merced, Tulare, Stanislaus, and San Joaquin as well as the dean of the College of Health and Human Services at California State University, Fresno. The Partnership is predicated on the common goal of serving the public health needs of the Central San Joaquin Valley using a regional approach.

The Consortium provides a forum for its members to discuss health issues affecting their service populations and to pool resources. Consortium activities are designed to improve community health and population health status by strengthening regional collaboration, planning, workforce development and training.

The Consortium collaborates to:

  • Address public health issues
  • Build public health infrastructure and resource allocation affecting the region
  • Enhance regional community health
  • Planning to meet the needs of the rapidly growing and culturally diverse Central Valley population
  • Advance the leadership capacity of organizations

The second conference in 2003 “Addressing Health Disparities" was an exploration of health disparities and workforce development in the Central San Joaquin Valley with an emphasis on diverse populations.

Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program

The Central California Public Health Partnership is currently engaged in the Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program, a $2.6 million dollar initiative to address environmental and social policy related to obesity.
