theories are described and evaluated. Theory construction, theory critique
with comparative analysis of extant nursing theories, the relationship between
theory and research, and the utility of nursing theory for practice, education,
and administration are explored.

Prerequisite: admission to Graduate Program in Nursing. Emerging trends
and universal aspects of advanced roles in nursing are examined. Appropriate
theory, research and evaluation strategies are interpreted and applied to

major issues relevant to nursing are analyzed within the context of social,
political, economic, and historical perspectives.

Prerequisite: admission to Graduate Program in Nursing, Nurs 221. Conceptual
models of family and community systems are analyzed in relation to health
promotion, restoration, and maintenance. Neuman's Health Care Model is evaluated
in conjunction with other theories. Epidemiological and ecological frameworks
with implications for primary, secondary, and tertiary nursing interventions
are addressed.
229. Practicum in Advanced Clinical Nursing (3)

228 prior to or concurrently. Applications of individual, family, and community
systems theories and health appraisal skills in clinical practice settings.
Transcultural and intergenerational factors are addressed. Creative strategies
to client systems problem solving are implemented through application of
theoretical models across interdisciplinary practice settings.
