University Lecture Series
Edward James Olmos
With a history of Tony and Academy Award nominations, Edward James Olmos acted and made his directorial debut in the highly acclaimed movie "American Me." While on campus, Olmos visited with Provost Alexander Gonzales (right).
The University Lecture Series (ULS) is an educational forum that features
distinguished speakers, performers, and public figures. The series seeks
to provide quality lecture programming which will stimulate and enhance
the intellectual climate of our university and surrounding communities.
Featured speakers have included President Jimmy Carter and President Gerald
Ford; Israeli U.N. Ambassador Abba Eban; Senator Edmund Muskie; politician
Henry Cisneros; journalist Carole Simpson; authors Amy Tan, Ray Bradbury,
Dr. Bernie Siegel, and Dr. Elizabeth Kubler Ross; playwright Luis Valdez;
Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel; scientist Carl Sagan; director Spike Lee; attorney
Alan Dershowitz; activists Maki Mandela and Ralph Nader; historian Martin
Marty; and children's rights activist Marian Wright Edelman. Speakers have
also included performers such as dancers Mikhail Baryshnikov and Bella Lewitzky
and comedian Paul Rodriguez.
The University Lecture Series is funded in part by the Office of the Provost
and Vice President for Academic Affairs and the University Student Union
Board. In addition, special programs may be planned, supported, or jointly
sponsored by off-campus groups or organizations. For more information, call
