CORE
An educated person must be able to read critically, communicate effectively,
and think clearly. The CORE course requirements must be completed before
students will be allowed to enroll in upper -division CAPSTONE courses.
Select one course from each of the following six categories for a minimum
of 18 units.
- English 1
- Speech 3, 7, or 8
- Quantitative Reasoning (1) Mathematics: Decision Sciences 71, Mathematics 45, 70, 72, 75 (2) Computer Language: Computer Science 20, 40; Electrical and Computer Engineering 70, 71 (3) Statistics: Agricultural Economics 71, Health Science 92, Mathematics 11, Plant Science 99, Psychology 42
- Critical Thinking: A course meeting the Critical Thinking requirement
shall deal with the following topics: (a) analysis, criticism, and advocacy
of ideas; (b) reaching factual or judgmental conclusions; (c) learning
elementary inductive and deductive processes; d) recognition of formal
and informal fallacies of language and thought.
The following courses presently satisfy this requirement: Anthropology 30; Computer Science 1; English 21, 30, 44; Foreign Language 10; Greek 10; Natural Science 4; Philosophy 25, 26, 27, 45; Sociology 3; Speech 5; Surveying Engineering 5; Women's Studies 12
Note: Students must complete the Critical Thinking requirement prior to the completion of 60 units. - History 11 or 12
