The Department of Management offers two options (areas of emphasis) within
the Bachelor of Science in the Business Administration degree program.
The Human Resource Management Option is one of only 57 programs nationally
- and the only program in the California State University system - that
has been certified by the Association of University and College Industrial
Relations and Human Resource programs. The program is consistently ranked
in the top five nationally. This ranking is based on the number of students
who pass the Society of Human Resource Management's "Professional in
Human Resource" certification exam.
The option focuses upon the people who work in organizations. Consideration
is given to personnel administration, labor relations and collective bargaining,
employee compensation, and government legislation dealing with employees.
The courses offered in this area will be of interest to those who wish to
specialize in personnel work and to other students who wish to strengthen
their understanding of people in organizations.
The Management Option provides students with an opportunity to acquire
skills and knowledge necessary for managing groups and organizations. Emphasis
is given to development of skills in planning, organizing, leading and controlling,
as well as the conceptual and analytical abilities which underlie the key
managerial activities. Students may take electives in human relations, social
issues, corporate/international issues, decision techniques, and special
management applications.
