Open House 2015

The twenty-first annual OPEN HOUSE will be held on December 3, 2015 This event gives college-bound high school students the opportunity to meet our faculty and to discover more about our programs in Theatre and Dance.

Every year, our Open House holds scholarship auditions and interviews for any high school seniors who have applied to Fresno State for the next Fall semester, and who are seriously considering a major in theatre or dance. Students who wish to audition or interview should pre-register by completing the online STUDY GRANT APPLICATION and having their sponsoring teacher complete the online TEACHER RECOMMENDATION FORM. Scholarship awards will be announced in the Spring '16 semester. 

The Open House is offered to you and 15 interested junior or senior students as a free event! Please complete the online OPEN HOUSE REGISTRATION FORM to register for the Open House.

Our department holds auditions and interviews for scholarships in acting, design, and dance for high school students who have applied to Fresno State for Fall, 2015 during the application period (September 1-November 30), and who are seriously considering a major in theatre or dance.

Back by popular demand! Monologue Showcase- In addition to the scholarship auditions, in the afternoon we will offer juniors and seniors the opportunity to participate in "Monologue Showcase" workshops. Students may come with prepared monologues or scenes and have the opportunity to receive feedback from our faculty. We will also be offering MORE workshops for your students to choose from!

The Application Filing Period is September 1 - November 30. Scholarship applications are available September 30-November 30. Due to record number of applications and limited state funds, we will only be able to offer scholarships to students with applications filed during this time.

Student Scholarship Audition/Interview Checklist

California State University, Fresno is an impacted campus at the freshman level. All first-time freshman applicants must complete and submit the Fresno State Application for Admission during the filing period (September 1 to November 30, 2015) to be considered for admission. Applicants will be admitted based on CSU system-wide eligibility criteria. SAT or ACT scores are required for all students with a grade point average below a 3.00. SAT or ACT scores are recommended for all students with grade point average of 3.00 or higher. Test scores must be submitted by January 15, 2016 for Fall 2016 Admission.




1. Prepare 2 contrasting monologues (total time limit-5 minutes)
2. Prepare one monologue and one scene (total time limit-5 minutes) Songs are acceptable to replace a scene or monologue as long as the student provides his or her own accompaniment. Time limit will be strictly enforced.

TO INTERVIEW FOR STUDY GRANTS (DESIGN EMPHASIS) Be ready to answer questions about why you are interested in the design/tech emphasis for Theatre Arts. Although it is not required, you may bring examples of any work you have done on a production or in the area of design (photographs, models, renderings, drawings, sketches, etc.) Design emphasis students will also be encouraged to participate in design workshops offered in the afternoon.

TO AUDITION FOR STUDY GRANTS (DANCE EMPHASIS) Prepare a 3-minute solo to music of your choice. Please include balance work, turns, and air work in your solo. You will also participate in a Master Class for dance.

Students interested in auditioning for an emphasis in acting or dance or in interviewing for the area of design may attend by completing the online Study Grant Application, as well as have their high school drama or dance teacher complete the online Teacher Recommendation Form.
