He also participated in the Bulldog Marching Band and was recognized as the Outstanding Rookie in 2007 and the Ritchie Clendenin Outstanding Musician in 2008—a remarkable feat, considering the band boasted well over 250 members during his two years of participation. Justin was also recognized for Outstanding Musicianship on one of his featured solos at the 2010 Reno Jazz Festival .
One of his compositions, Quit Interrupting, was featured on two Department of Music CDs, including the 2010 Jazz Orchestra recording, The Goodness, and the departmental compilation CD, Energetikos. He will be performing his senior recital on March 17 th, 2011, which will feature many of his original compositions. Justin is in the process of applying to grad school and will definitely make a mark in the music world as his career plays out.
Justin remarked, “If I had to use one word to describe my experience studying in the Fresno State Music Department, it would be ‘versatility.’ I had the opportunity to do a little bit of everything. My involvement in the Marching Band and Wind Orchestra, as well as the Jazz Orchestra and Jazztet, has given me a well-rounded approach to performing and listening to all kinds of music. I would like to express endless gratitude to my professors, who have worked diligently—around the clock—to help me grow as a musician.”
