Fresno State Department of Music Audition Day

The Fresno State Department of Music Audition Day provides prospective students an opportunity to audition for department faculty and become eligible for departmental scholarships. (Instrumental students may be required to complete a studio audition at the beginning of the Fall semester)
Auditions for the Instrumentalists, Vocalists and the Bulldog Beat will take place on the same day. Students who are auditioning for more than one area will be scheduled for separate auditions times.
High school, transfer and graduate students who have applied for admission to Fresno State for the 2019-2020 academic year are eligible to audition.
Saturday, January 26, 2019, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (time and events subject to change)
Registration will take place in the Department of Music Lobby

What is required for the audition?
1. Fill out application form HERE
2. An audition time will be assigned to you at Check-In the day of the audition.
3. Prepare for your audition.
Instrumental Auditions – Applicants for admission should be prepared to perform one or more selections that represent your highest level of performance. An accompanist will not be provided for instrumental auditions. Students may use an accompaniment CD or bring their own accompanist.
Voice Auditions - Applicants for admission should prepare two classical songs, one of which must be in a language other than English. Songs must be memorized. Your audition music must be emailed to our pianist Drew Quiring: firstname.lastname@example.org at least 10 days in advance (by January 14, 2019).
Bulldog Beat Audition music is available on our band's website http://www.fresnostatebands.com/bulldogbeat. Audition Day for Bulldog Beat is Saturday, January 26, 2019. Complete the application above and you will be assigned an audition time
upon your arrival at Check-In.
Composition Interviews All students interested in interviewing for the Music Composition program should bring with them the following:
- Three representative compositions. These scores should be notated out, either in music notation software (i.e. Finale, Sibelius, etc.) or by hand. Scores should be bound.
- Audio recordings of each piece. Recordings may be MIDI realizations (for students applying to the MA program, MIDI is strongly discouraged).
Multiple auditions - For those planning to audition on more than one instrument or will be auditioning for the Department of Music and Bulldog Beat please complete the application fully. You will need to advise Check-In that you are auditioning on multiple instruments or disciplines.
