Journals and Organizations

The MFA program at Fresno State has several opportunities for students to gain experience in literary publishing and literary events planning/coordination.

THE NORMAL SCHOOL:   - Celebrating 5 years, the Normal School offers internship opportunities to students who want to gain experience working for a national literary magazine.  

San Joaquin Review  - an annual literary journal featuring the work of Fresno State graduate and undergraduate students.  MFA students work as editors and editorial assistants and are responsible for all phases of creation from selecting work to final publication.

Chicano Writers and Artists Association (CWAA) - a student organization dedicated to promoting Chicano writers on and around campus through various events.

Flies Cockroaches and Poets - the annual publication of CWAA, highlighting the work of Fresno State students.

San Joaquin Literary Association - a student organization dedicated to promoting literary events on and around campus, including the annual WordFest reading and craft lectures featuring nationally renowned authors.

Students of English Studies Association  (SESA)

Young Writers Conference  - an annual conference for local high school students who are interested in creative writing.  MFA students serve as editorial board and assist in all phases of the conference from designing promotional materials and the annual publication, Spectrum, to leading creative writing workshops at the event.
