Dr. Walton taught an American Literature course to students in Tokyo, Japan, via the Internet, the first Fresno State course to be taught internationally through the Internet in 1998. He has also been an exchange professor in Osaka, Japan, and in Seoul, Korea. He has numerous publications and professional presentations to his credit on topics as broad as Langston Hughes, Malcolm X, Arthur Miller, August Wilson, Miles Davis, Ralph Ellison, standardized test scores and the Harlem Renaissance. 

At Mount Union College in Ohio, Walton was the recipient of the Great Teacher Award. A longtime Table Leader and consultant for Educational Testing Service of Princeton (ETS), he was also commissioned by the The Fresno Bee as a guest columnist to write a series of articles.
