Dr. Timothy Skeen
Dr. Timothy Skeen earned a Ph.D. in Creative Writing (Poetry) from the University
of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1993. He specializes in 20th Century American poetry. He serves
as the James and Coke Hallowell Professor of Creative Writing (2017-19).
Dr. Skeen joined the faculty at California State University, Fresno in Fall 2004. His latest collection of poems, Reward, is forthcoming in fall 2017 from Finishing Line Press. His second poetry collection, Risk, won the 2014 White Pine Press Poetry Prize, and it was selected as the 2014 Outstanding Faculty Publication from the Department of English. His first poetry collection, Kentucky Swami, won the John Ciardi Prize for Poetry in 2001. The book was published by BkMk Press at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
The Kentucky native’s poems have appeared in journals and magazines including the Antioch Review, Prairie Schooner, New Letters, the Mid-American Review, The Southern Review, and the Sonora Review. He earned a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council and an Award for Innovative Excellence in Teaching, Learning, and Technology at the tenth annual Conference on College Teaching and Learning.
Dr. Skeen lives in Fresno with his wife, Pam, and their daughter, Iris.
