Dr. Thomas McNamara
Dr. Tom McNamara is a graduate of the Center for Writing Studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At Illinois, he taught undergraduate writing, contributed to efforts to support multilingual writers campuswide, and served as Digital Literacies Coordinator for the Undergraduate Rhetoric Program. Before beginning his Ph.D. at Illinois, he worked as an administrator in the University Center for Writing-based Learning at DePaul University, where he also taught first-year writing.
Tom's research interests include basic and multilingual writers, linguistic diversity, critical race theory, writing centers, and campus internationalization. His current project studies the language learning of Chinese undergraduates at the University of Illinois, currently the largest enroller of Chinese international students nationally.
Tom joined the Department of English at Fresno State in 2016 as an Assistant Professor.
