Dr. Niles Goins teaches Organizational Communication, Small Group Communication, Gender Communication, and Special Event planning courses using a variety of methods: in-person, hybrid (tablet), and fully online. She joined the faculty at California State University, Fresno in Fall 2007. She brings a healthy balance of both Organizational and Small Group Communication to the Department. Dr. Niles Goins has taught several courses at Howard University, the University of Iowa, and George Mason University, including Gender Roles and Communication and Organizational Communication.
Dr. Niles Goins has several articles and book chapters published, including pieces in The Routledge Handbook of Applied Communication Research,Communication Studies, and Journal of the Alliance of Black School Educators. She is also co-editor of and contributor to a published book about the experiences of women of color in the academy. It is entitled, Still Searching for Our Mothers' Gardens: Experiences of New, Tenure-Track Women of Color at 'Majority' Institutions.
Dr. Niles Goins is part of Fresno State's DISCOVERe Tablet Initiative and uses tablets in several of her courses. She is also one of the faculty coordinators for the First-Year Experience (FYE) program and the African American Edge Initiative. She is active in the National Communication Association, Western States Communication Association, and serves as President for the Organization for Research on Women and Communication and Second Vice-President of the Western States Communication Association.
