Amin Makkawy is interested in how interactions between people with disabilities and those who are able-bodied in organizational contexts shape and are shaped by communicative acts. His research agenda spans topics such as intercultural communication, organizational discourse, communication technology, technology access, organizational policy, and disability studies. His overall goal is to produce research that is impactful in the scholarly community and has practical implications.
Dr. Makkawy is an active member of the National Communication Association (NCA). He has participated in multiple panels regarding pedagogy as well as shared his scholarly research with the NCA community.
Before joining the communication department at Fresno State, Dr. Makkawy taught organizational and small group communication at The University of North Carolina- Charlotte. His highly interactive teaching approach is centered on the overall goal to empower students to use their voices in improving society and become exemplary citizens.
