Dr. Fraleigh is the co-author of the published Speak Up! An Illustrated Guide to Public Speaking (Bedford/ St. Martin’s, 2011) and Freedom of Expression in the Marketplace of Ideas (Sage, 2010). He is currently working on Human Communication text. In addition to his Communication courses, Dr. Fraleigh teaches the Honors Rhetoric course in the Smittcamp Family Honors College program. He has served as chair of the Freedom of Expression and Legal Communication Interest Group and the Finance Committee for WSCA and as associate editor for journals in the fields of freedom of expression and argumentation and debate. He directed the Barking Bulldogs speech and debate team from 1990 to 2003.
As an undergraduate, Professor Fraleigh had the opportunity to compete for an exceptional group of debate coaches at California State University, Sacramento, qualifying for the 1974-77 National Debate Tournaments. He is a proud University of California Golden Bear, where he served as Associate Editor of the California Law Review in 1979-80.
