Dr. Shane Moreman joined the Communication Department in 2003 as its Intercultural Communication scholar. Currently he is the department’s Graduate Coordinator. In addition to the nuanced ethnic and racial diversity of California State University, Fresno, Dr. Moreman appreciates his university’s active involvement in local issues and its emphasis on international perspectives. He has served his campus as the Coordinator of Global Education for the Division of Continuing and Global Education and the Executive Director of the Center for Creativity and the Arts. Most recently he was the CSU-wide Chair of the Academic Council of International Programs.

Dr. Moreman's research mainly concerns Latinx/a/o communities but more generally involves critical approaches to the communicative and performative aspects of all cultural expression and interaction. He has been published in peer-reviewed research journals including Communication Theory, Communication & Critical/Cultural Studies, Text & Performance Quarterly, Journal of International & Intercultural Communication, and Communication Education. He was co-editor of a special issue of TPQ on “Latina/o Performativities.” He served an appointment to the Research Board for the National Communication Association and is currently on four research journal editorial boards.

Focusing on inclusion, equity, and antiracism, Dr. Moreman teaches Intercultural Communication at both the undergraduate and graduate level. He has also taught in Mexico, England, and Costa Rica. He is a CSU Certified Online Course Reviewer, providing feedback and assistance for online course design across the Cal State system. Dr. Moreman has been recognized as “Latina/o Scholar of the Year” from NCA's Latina/o Communication Studies Division. He was awarded the Outstanding Advisor of the Year Award and also the Provost’s Award for Graduate Teaching and Mentoring. He is a proud member of the Cultural Arts Rotary Club of Fresno, where he serves the local Fresno community including over 600 Interact high school students at Central East, Central West, and S.O.U.L high schools. He also helps support The School of St. Jude in Arusha, Tanzania.
