Jason Hurst (1992), is a co-host for the morning show on Soft Rock 98.9 in Fresno, Calif. He's currently working the 5-10 a.m. shift.
 
John H. Stanfield, II (1974), African and African Diaspora Public Sociologist and Minister; and former senior professor in numerous major research universities in America and abroad, the most recent being Indiana University Bloomington, has been appointed, as a possible first for an American, as Post-Retirement Distinguished Research Fellow and Research Director for the South Africa Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC) Research Programme on Democracy, Governance, and Service Delivered. His focus will be on multicultural restorative justice in national governance, civil society, and in residential communities in South Africa; and in other African Slavery Legacy Societies such as Brazil and the United States. HSRC is the largest government-based social sciences and humanities research institute in Africa and one of the largest in the world. Stansfield will be based in Cape Town, South Africa.
 
Shannon Wentworth (1993, ’97) has been presented the 2016 Hugh Goodwin Bar Scholarship of $9,000 to attend the San Joaquin College of Law. Her interests are in serving her tribe, the North Fork Rancheria of Mono Indians, and helping the community’s health.
 
Nathan Cardella (2003) and Cardella Winery in Mendota have received a double gold medal for its 2014 Malbec at the California State Fair Commercial Wine Competition. The state fair competition is one of the oldest and most prestigious wine events in the nation.
 
Joel Alonzo (Alumnus), a self-proclaimed connoisseur of haircuts, has opened a barbershop calls SipsnClips -- that features haircuts, but also offers 16 beers on tap -- a first for Fresno.
 
Tamara Shamlian (2007), a Smittcamp Honors College graduate, opened a new private orthodontic office, Clarity Orthodontics, in North West Fresno.
 
Georgeanne White (1992) has been hired as an assistant director of development and resource management for the Public Utilities Department with the City of Fresno. Most recently, she was the chief of staff for mayors Ashley Swearengin and Alan Autry.
 
John Kane (2002) has been hired as the director of winemaking and winery operations for Fetzer Vineyards. Fetzer, based in Hopland, CA., is a pioneer in sustainable winemaking. It is the largest winery in California to become a certified B Corporation, joining the ranks of businesses such as Patagonia and Ben & Jerry’s that promote their commitment to social responsibility and environmental practices as well as profits.
 
Anastasia Hendrix (1991) has been hired as deputy editor for the Features Department of the “Las Vegas Review-Journal.” She brings two decades of newspaper experience, including five years as senior features editor at the “San Francisco Chronicle.” Hendrix also served as style editor and a reporter during her time at the Chronicle, and she reported for the “San Francisco Examiner” and “The Fresno Bee.” As a student, she was the Editor-in-Chief for “The Collegian” – Fresno State’s student-run newspaper.
 
Jeffrey Michael Burnett (1999) has been promoted to lieutenant colonel and is transferring to Fort Belvoir, VA., from the U.S Embassy in Cairo. He received a Defense Meritorious service medal for his time in Cairo. He has also been stationed overseas in Hawaii, Iraq, South Korea and the Netherlands. As a student, Burnett was a second lieutenant through the ROTC program at Fresno State.
 
Allison Zulewski (2016) is engaged to be married on Oct. 15, 2016 in Madera, CA. She is a three-time Bulldog Pride Fund scholar.
 
Carole Goldsmith (1991, 2005) has been named President of Fresno City College. Currently, she is President of West Hills College Coalinga. Dr. Goldsmith was presented a Top Dog Alumna Award by the Fresno State Alumni Association on behalf of the Division of Graduate Studies in 2013.
