Community service tops 1 million hours for fourth straight year
Community service by Fresno State students, faculty, staff and administrators during the 2012-13 academic year exceeded 1 million hours for the fourth consecutive year. Irvin S. Arroyo (1997) was selected by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and the California State University Water Resources and Policy Initiative (WRPI) to receive a $40,000 scholarship to pursue a doctorate in Environmental Science at University of California, Merced. Patricia Hoffman (1980) plays Lady Bracknell in the Good Company Players production of "The Importance of Being Earnest" at the Second Space Theatre. The play also features Jacob Rico (Student) as Algernon, Ryan Torres (Student), Mitchell Lam Hau (Student) and Gordon Moore(1984); and is directed by J. Daniel Herring (Faculty). More Header

 

Genoveva Islas-Hooker (1991), of Tulare, has been appointed to the California Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley by Edmund G. Brown Jr. She is currently the regional program director for the Central California Regional Obesity Prevention Program.

 (1989) has joined EXIT Realty Consultants Fresno as a real estate agent. He brings 22 years of experience in real estate and has worked previously at Golden Valley Realty.



Breanne Loyd (2010) was hired as a certified trade show manager with Marketing Plus. She has a degree in business administration, with an option in marketing, along with a CTSM Certificate.

 

 

Three alumni at Dowling Aaron Incorporated have been highlighted by Super Lawyers Magazine: Steven McGee(1972) and David Weiland(1972) as Super Lawyers; and Nathan Powell (2000) as a Rising Star.

Nhia Moua (2013, Founder), Alex Johnson (Student, Lead engineer and designer), Matt Borra (Student, Main engineer) and Jose Melara (Student, Materials engineer) created CarbonForce, an iPhone case with a bottle opener in it. They currently have a prototype and are hoping to raise $12,000 so they can manufacture and sell the case. This idea came out of Moua's senior year project in his entrepreneurship class. More Header

Bear Pascoe (2008) will start in fullback for preseason games with the New York Giants. Pascoe, a former Fresno State star, helped the Giants reach the Super Bowl in 2012 and went on to defeat New England to win the Super Bowl XLVI.

Chris Rosander (1982) will be inducted into the International Space Hall of Fame at the New Mexico Museum of Space History with his colleagues on the Delta Chipper Experimental team. This is the first time a team of scientists have received this honor. More Header

 

 

Adam Schroeder (2009) directored "Night, Mother" which featured Fresno State Alumnae Leslie Martin (2009) and Danielle Jorn (2009).



 

Steve Susdorf (2008) has been called up to The Phillies as an outfield replacement for immediate use. As a Bulldog, he was a Fresno State standout on the 2008 national championship team.



Gary Soto (1974) has written "What Poets Are Like: Up and Down with the Writing Life" that reflects on his life. Part of the book talks about the influence growing up in the Central Valley had on him and that he learned how to take outside influences and put them into words. Genelle Taylor (1995) has been named the new executive director of the Marjaree Mason Center. She has served as the associate director of the Lyles Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship for the past 14 years.

 

 

Touyee Thao (Student) was selected as one of the 20 Golden Opportunity Institute Scholars for 2013 by the American Society of Agronomy, Crop Science Society of America and Soil Science Society of America. More Header

 

Ryan Wendell (2008) is the New England Patriots center, which means another season snapping the ball to quarterback Tom Brady a year after he finally broke into the starting lineup. A four-year starter and all-conference guard at Fresno State, Wendell initially signed with the Patriots as an undrafted free agent in 2008. More Header
